We answer these questions by first making clear the difference between symptomatic and causal treatments. Symptomatic therapies dominate everyday medical practice, but often achieve no improvement or only temporary improvement. They are stopgap solutions that are used because the causes are not known. Causal therapies, by contrast, aim to change the underlying functional disorder itself.

Ever since Dr. Berndsen coined the term Cranio-Cervical Dysfunction Syndrome, CCDS for short, it has always been important to him to represent it appropriately in graphic form. This led to the “Oral Functional Space” graphic with its four central functional areas. The graphic illustrates very clearly how the interaction of the four functional areas – central nervous system, neck, nose, and mouth & throat – forms the Oral Functional Space. Malfunctions in the highly complex interplay of these areas lead to CCDS. The mouth & throat functional area occupies a key position in this. This is where FaceFormer therapy comes in.
