During training, the FaceFormer lies against the mucous membrane, teeth and gums. That is why the material and the shape matter.
The material
Silicone for mucosal contact
Liquid silicone LSR 4030
A silicone by Momentive for medical applications, elastic and dimensionally stable.
Tested for tolerability
Biocompatibility tested in accordance with ISO 10993 (Parts 6, 10 and 11) and USP Class VI.
Free from harmful additives
No bisphenol A (BPA), no phthalates, no plasticisers, no latex.
Post-treated by tempering
After manufacture, every FaceFormer is tempered for several hours. This stabilises its elasticity and drives out volatile components.
The shape
Membrane and lip wedge
The elastic membrane lies in the oral vestibule between the lips, cheeks and gums and extends into the mucobuccal folds. This allows it to adapt to different jaw shapes and tooth positions and to distribute pressure over a wide area.
The oval, bevelled lip wedge is connected to it without any opening. This is why a stable negative pressure forms when you swallow, and the bevel guides the lips towards the membrane.
Two hardnesses
One shape, two material hardnesses
All FaceFormers have the same size and shape. They differ only in hardness.
FaceFormer ZERO
Softer. For getting started, for children up to the age of ten and for the night.
FaceFormer ONE
Firmer, in blue or clear. For daytime training after a few weeks with the ZERO.

Hygiene and care
How to keep your FaceFormer clean
Rinse
Rinse under warm water after every session.
Store
Protected in the hygiene box made of polypropylene.
Boil
For about 20 seconds in boiling water. In clinics it is autoclaved.
Personal use
Everyone trains with their own FaceFormer.
Medical device
From Unna, CE-marked
Class I medical device under the MDR, CE-marked. The manufacturer is Dr. Berndsen GmbH in Unna; it was developed by Dr. Klaus-Jürgen Berndsen and Sabine Berndsen at the ISST.
How long does a FaceFormer last?
Until the end of the therapy. If it is damaged, usually by biting on the membrane, replace it.
I can taste the FaceFormer
This happens very rarely. Rinse it thoroughly or boil it briefly. If the taste persists, please get in touch with us.
I have a latex allergy
The FaceFormer does not contain latex.

FaceFormer training aims to restore the physiological setting of the basic functions of breathing, swallowing and head balance, with lip closure and the tongue reference position, thereby creating the conditions under which complaints can improve.
