In short
Both models are designed for adults and children alike. They differ only in the firmness of the material.
Just starting out? Begin with the ZERO and switch to the ONE after about eight weeks.
Been training for a while? The ONE is your device for daytime use.
At night? Always the ZERO, regardless of how long you have been practising.
Child up to 10 years? The ZERO throughout.
Everything at once? The set contains both devices and costs less than buying them separately.
There is only one size: the ZERO and ONE have an identical shape and are the same size, including for children. The device itself is yellow. The colour you can choose in the shop refers to the hygiene box included.
FaceFormer training for teenagers and adults
The training follows a set sequence. You start with the softer ZERO, get your mouth and tongue used to the new movement and, after about eight weeks, switch to the firmer ONE during the day. At night, the ZERO remains the more comfortable choice for the entire duration of therapy.
The four phases
| Phase | Timeframe | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Getting used to it | Weeks 1 to 2 | ZERO, short sessions several times a day. The basic exercise becomes second nature. |
| Building up | Weeks 3 to 8 | Pulling exercises are added; wearing it at night becomes routine. |
| Strength | From week 8 | Switch to the ONE during the day. The ZERO stays for the night. |
| Stabilisation | From month 6 | The functions work on their own. Reduce training to maintain the results. |

The most common mistake
Not sticking with it long enough. The muscles need weeks to adopt a new movement pattern. If you stop after two weeks, you've got through the adjustment phase but missed out on the effect. Plan for six to twelve months from the start.
FaceFormer training with children
For children up to and including ten years of age, the softer ZERO is used throughout, including at night. Switching to the firmer ONE only becomes an option in adolescence. What matters is not how long the exercises last but how regularly they are done: better three times a day for five minutes than once for half an hour.
The course of therapy for children
| Phase | Period | What matters |
|---|---|---|
| Getting to know it | Weeks 1 to 2 | A playful approach, short sessions, no pressure. Parents practise along. |
| Routine | Weeks 3 to 8 | Build fixed times into the daily routine. The success book and stickers help. |
| Night | from week 4 to 8 | Add wearing at night as soon as the child feels confident. |
| Keeping it up | 6 to 12 months | Until nasal breathing and correct swallowing come naturally. |

When you should seek professional support
In the case of pronounced speech difficulties, severe mouth breathing with enlarged tonsils or orthodontic treatment that is already under way, the training belongs in professional hands. The practitioner directory lists only practitioners who have learned the method in a FaceFormer seminar and are certified.
Find a practitioner near youAreas of application
The FaceFormer trains the lip, tongue and pharyngeal muscles and thus the functions of breathing, swallowing and head posture. Because these functions are interconnected, the training has an effect on complaints that, at first glance, have little to do with one another. For each area, you will find expert articles and videos here to help you get started.

Important note
FaceFormer therapy does not replace a medical assessment. If your symptoms persist, please speak to your doctor. You can find FaceFormer-certified practitioners in the practitioner directory.
How the training works
The training does not target a single muscle, but a movement pattern. Nasal breathing, swallowing and head posture are interlinked. If one of these functions changes, the others change with it. This is exactly what the training aims at.
Where the tongue rests plays a part

How much training per day
Short sessions several times a day work better than one long one. The training app guides you through the exercises and records what you have done.
The free FaceFormer training app
Regular practice is what determines the success of therapy. The app makes exactly that easier: it reminds you to train, shows each exercise step by step and records your progress.
Guided exercises
Every exercise comes with instructions and a timer. You can see exactly how long and how often.
Reminders
Individually adjustable, so the short sessions don't get lost in everyday life.
Track your progress
Your training history at a glance. In practices and clinics, it can be used to show how consistently you have practised and to adjust the therapy in a targeted way.
Chat with our team
Questions about how to do an exercise? Our team of experts will answer you in the app chat.
Free for Android and iOS
The app is permanently free, with no subscription and no additional purchases. It works with every FaceFormer.
More information: FaceFormer app on faceformer.de
Prefer to train without the app? Every FaceFormer comes with printed exercise instructions and a training calendar.
For practices and clinics
The documented history makes visible the patient's cooperation, which would otherwise go unobserved between appointments. Therapists can see whether the exercises have been carried out regularly and correctly, and can tailor the therapy accordingly instead of guessing. With children, the history also helps in conversations with parents.
